La Nostra Storia
our storyLucia Moretti arrived from a hill town outside Siena with a rolling pin, a chestnut-wood pasta board, and no intention of opening a restaurant. She cooked Sunday lunch for homesick neighbors; the neighbors brought neighbors. By 1987 the front room of the building on Barrow Street had twelve tables, a handwritten menu, and a line out the door on rainy Thursdays.
Today her son Enzo runs the floor and her granddaughter Sofia runs the kitchen, but the rules have not moved: the pasta is rolled after the lunch rush, the sugo starts before sunrise, and nobody — nobody — is turned away for arriving without a reservation. Pull up a chair. The evening is long.
